Moate road accident victim was native of Roscommon

The male pedestrian who lost his life in a tragic road collision outside Moate in the early hours of Sunday morning last, May 28, has been named as John Fleming from county Roscommon.

Mr. Fleming, who is in his 50's, lived at Brenamore, Loughlynn and was formerly from Currasallagh, Liscaul in Castlerea.

He was fatally injured in a road collision shortly before 2am at an area known as Marshbrook on the R446 road between Moate and Horseleap. Mr. Fleming was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gardaí are continuing their investigation into the fatal incident which also involved a car. The occupants of the car received medical attention but were not seriously injured.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward, and are also appealing to any motorists with camera footage (including dashcam), who were travelling on the R446 between Moate and Horseleap at the time of the collision, to make it available to them.

At the time of writing no funeral arrangements had been announced for the late John Fleming who is survived by his wife, Margaret, father Nicholas, sisters Helen and Katherine, relatives, good neighbours and many friends.
