Two Roscommon businesses served with food safety closure orders

Two businesses in Roscommon were temporarily shut last month as a result of closure orders issued by the HSE for breaches of food safety legislation.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) said one of the closure orders was served on the kitchen operations at Into The West, a pub in Frenchpark, Roscommon. This order did not affect beverage service at the business.

The closure order at Into The West was served on June 23 last, and was lifted four days later after the issues which led to the closure were addressed.

Earlier in the month a closure order was served on Chef Kebab, a take-away at Castle Street in Roscommon, on June 9. Similarly, this order was lifted a short time later, allowing the business to reopen on June 12.

The FSAI publishes details of food safety enforcement measures on a monthly basis. It reported that 12 enforcement orders in total were served on food businesses across the country during the month of June.

"While inspectors are available to answer questions and provide guidance, they have a duty to protect public health and will issue Enforcement Orders when businesses contravene the expected food safety standards," said Dr Pamela Byrne, Chief Executive of the FSAI.

"Consumers have a right to safe food and we call on all food businesses to ensure they are fulfilling this requirement on a daily basis."
