Single-lane system in place due to Athlone railway bridge works

As a result of repair and painting works taking place on the white railway bridge in Athlone, there will be a lane closure on the road between Grace Road and Elliot Road (formerly Accommodation Road) for approximately 10 – 12 weeks.

This is another in a series of works taking place in Athlone currently affecting the flow of traffic.

Irish Rail have said: “Road traffic management for single-lane traffic will be in operation and delays to road traffic will be kept to a minimum.”

While the single-lane traffic will be in operation 24/7, repair works will primarily take place during the day time hours so as to avoid disruption to local residents.

Residents will be informed in advance if any night works will have to be carried out.
