Taoiseach to officially open this year's fleadh

The chair of the Fleadh Organising Committee has confirmed that Taoiseach Leo Varadkar will officially open this year's Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking to Gavin Jennings on News at One on RTÉ, Joe Connaire said that the Taoiseach will perform the official opening on the Gig Rig in Blackhall.

President Michael D Higgins was scheduled to open the festival, but is unable to do so as he is still recovering from a surgical procedure he underwent last month.
