Athlone Town name stadium stand after long-serving volunteer

The stand at Athlone Town stadium has been officially named in honour of long-serving volunteer Liam Gaffey.

Athlone Town AFC said, in a statement, that it was delighted to honour its club's president Liam Gaffey, by naming the stadium's stand the Liam Gaffey Stand

"Liam has been with the club for 50+ years and has been a fantastic servant to the club throughout those years.

"Liam is central to all operations and events at the club, Liam is now club president and can be seen at every match and at our Drive in Bingo," the club, said, in a post on Facebook.
