Essential repairs cause water outages in parts of Athlone

With a number of areas in Athlone experiencing water outages over the past number of days, Uisce Eireann has issued details of works being carried out in the town today (Wednesday, May 8).

Residents in Castlemaine Court, on the Dublin Road, have been among those worst affected by serious disruption to their water supply since Thursday of last week due to what Uisce Eireann said were "essential maintenance works."

A tanker of water was left in the area this week for the residents' use.

Uisce Eireann stated that the essential works taking place in the area were scheduled to continue until 6pm this evening, and that supplies may be affected in Castlemaine Street and Castlemaine Court.

At the time of writing (11am today) water supply was beginning to return for some of the residents of Castlemaine Court, who had been without running water for days.

Meanwhile, a number of other areas in Athlone, including Battery Heights, St Peter's Terrace and Battery Road, on the west side of town, were experiencing disruptions to their water supply today as Uisce Eireann carried out repair works as part of its National Leakage Reduction Programme.

The repair works, which began at 8am this morning, are due to continue throughout the day, until 5pm. A traffic management plan has been put in place for the duration of the works in the affected areas.

Uisce Eireann has advised householders to wait for a period of two to three hours after the estimated restoration time to allow their water supply to return to normal
