Ditch the car this week and hop on your bike!

Running from Saturday, May 11, to Sunday May next May 19 is Bike Week 2024. There are loads of events organised in Westmeath, and the National Transport Authority (NTA) and Westmeath Sports Partnership (WSP) have put the details of the Westmeath Bike Week events on: westmeathsports.ie.

From family-friendly activities to heritage cycles, maintenance workshops, and learn-to-cycle events, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

All 31 local authority areas are participating in Bike Week, and events are organised in collaboration with local sports partnerships.

Anne Graham, CEO of the NTA, said: “Bike Week 2024 is a fantastic opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to come together and promote cycling as a sustainable and healthy form of transportation.”

Tony Wheat, Westmeath Sports Partnership coordinator, added: “Westmeath’s Bike Week 2024 promises an exciting lineup of events aimed at inspiring people of all ages and abilities to embrace cycling as a fun, sustainable, and healthy mode of transportation.

“From scenic community cycles and informative sessions, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.”

Those taking part in Bike Week are encouraged to share photos or videos to social media using #BikeWeek and tagging their local authority/sports partnership and Transport for Ireland @TFIUpdates.
