Westmeath Ploughing Match this weekend

The 2025 Westmeath Ploughing Match takes place this Sunday, March 9 by kind permission on the lands of Jim and Anthony Fox, Ballymacmorris, Kilbeggan (Eircode N91 YX68).

It is one of the highlights on the farming calendar, and the organisers are hoping the weather remains relatively dry over the next few days, as a number of ploughing matches across the country have already been postponed this year.

Anyone competing at the weekend should have their entries in to Gérard Halpin (086 856 3272) or Richard Dudley (086 6080 303) on or before March 5.

While the main event takes place on Sunday, the Novice/Beginners Novelty Match takes place on Saturday, March 8 at the same venue.

It is open to people of all ages from the locality with cash prizes for first, second and third. Entries should be sent to Christy Carton (086 8229 387) or Mick Heaney (087 2580 499).
