April was third-warmest on record since 1900 – Met Éireann

Last month was the third-warmest April on record in Ireland since 1900, Met Éireann has said.
It also confirmed a record-high April temperature for Ireland, recorded in Athenry, Co Galway on Wednesday April 30th with a temperature of 25.9 degrees.
The Irish forecasting agency said on Friday that April 2025 was “a month of contrasts”, with heavy rainfall at the start of the month and high temperatures at the end.
The average temperature on the island of Ireland this April was 10.60 degrees it said.
This is 1.72C above the 1991-2020 long-term average and 2.50 degrees above the 1961-1990 period.
The warmest April on record was in 2011 which had an average temperature of 11.23 degrees.
The second-warmest April was in 2007 and the driest was in 2017.
Along with the record-breaking temperature in Athenry, 16 other stations reported their highest daily maximum temperature for April on record on Wednesday, while Dublin Airport tied its record.
Earlier in the month, weather stations at Knock Airport in Co Mayo and at Mount Dillon and Gurteen in Co Tipperary recorded their wettest April day on record on Friday April 18th.
Met Éireann said Saturday morning will be dry in most areas with the best of the sunshine over the southern half of the country at first.
Cloud and patchy drizzle in Ulster will move southwards through the day with sunny spells following from the north. Highest temperatures of 12 to 17 degrees in moderate northerly winds.
They said high pressure will dominate the weather. So it will be mainly dry. Cool on Sunday and Monday. Becoming milder next week.
Sunday morning will be dry with sunny spells. Some well scattered showers will develop in the afternoon, mostly likely over Leinster and parts of Munster.
Highest temperatures ranging from a cool 9 degrees in the north and north east to 15 degrees in the southwest with light to moderate northeasterly breezes.
On Sunday night, any lingering showers will die out to give a dry night with clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 7 degrees.
Bank Holiday Monday will be largely dry with sunny spells. Highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees with light northeasterly or variable breezes.
