New pedestrian lights which illuminate footpath installed in Dublin

James Cox

New lights are being installed at junctions in Dublin city to alert distracted pedestrians.

Tara Street is the first location where the red lights that illuminate the ground are installed.

They're being added in a bid to get people who are looking at their phones or otherwise distracted to pay attention to the traffic ahead.

The lights, which have been used in other European cities, have been dubbed 'zombie' traffic lights as they are designed to improve safety for those not paying attention.
