Garda appeal after boat and trailer worth €30,000 stolen

Gardai in Athlone have appealed for witnesses this week after a boat and trailer, worth €30,000, were stolen from the carpark of a local hotel last week.

The owners of the boat were in town for the Lough Ree International Pike Festival and parked the boat and trailer in the carpark of the Shamrock Lodge Hotel, where they were staying overnight, at 6.30pm on Thursday, May 1.They discovered the theft at 8.30am on Friday, May 2. The trailer is a two-axel Respo trailer and the engine is a Volzhanka 46 with a black and silver trim around it. A garda spokesman said Gardai are examining CCTV footage in the area and have appealed for any witnesses, or anyone who saw anything suspicious in the in the area, or around the Magazine Road area, on Thursday night, May 1, into Friday morning, May 2, to contact Athlone Garda Station. They have also appealed for anyone who is offered items fitting the descriptions above to contact gardai.
