Westmeath to face Wicklow in Tailteann Cup last eight

Westmeath have been drawn against Wicklow in the quarter-finals of the Tailteann Cup. As group winners, Wicklow will have home advantage and Westmeath will have to travel to Aughrim next Sunday at 1.15pm.

Wicklow claimed a surprise win over Westmeath in last year's Leinster championship - a week after the Lake County won the Division 3 league final - and this draw provides an opportunity to avenge that defeat to Oisín McConville's charges.

Westmeath recorded an emphatic victory over Laois in their preliminary quarter-final at TEG Cusack Park last Saturday and Dermot McCabe's side will now be hoping to build on that by taking a step further.

The draw which took place this morning on RTÉ Radio 1 saw the four first-placed teams from the group stages drawn against the winners of the preliminary quarter-finals. Repeat pairings from the group stages were not permitted which meant Westmeath could not be drawn against Limerick.

The standout fixture in the quarter-finals is the meeting of Kildare and Offaly in Newbridge, a repeat of this year's Division 3 league final. The other quarter-finals are Fermanagh vs Sligo and Limerick vs Wexford.
