LOI: Derry City hit Waterford for seven in emphatic win

Derry City were the biggest winners in Friday's League of Ireland action as they hammered Waterford 7-2 at the Ryan McBride Brandywell stadium.

Two goals from Liam Boyce, Michael Duffy, and Mark Connolly gave Derry a 4-0 lead at half-time.

Duffy got his second before Boyce secured his hat-trick, and Derry had a seventh through Gavin White. Padraig Arnold pulled two goals back in the second half for Waterford.

Champions Shelbourne got back to winning ways with a 3-1 win over Cork City.

Two goals in the opening six minutes from Harry Wood and Ademipo Obubeko gave Joey O'Brien's side a quick start, but Cork pulled one back through Kitt Nelson in the 42nd minute.

Cork's task was made all the more difficult when Charlie Lyons in the 50th minute, as Shelbourne wrapped up the win with a third goal from Jonathan Lunney.

Drogheda are 10 points behind leaders Shamrock Rovers, after a 1-0 win over Galway United.

A goal in the 50th minute from Dare Kareem gave the Louth side victory, as they are in fourth place after Friday's result.

In the Dublin derby, it finished goalless between St Patrick's Athletic and Bohemians.

The result leaves Bohemians 10 points off the leaders in third, while Shelbourne are in fifth.

Shamrock Rovers will have the opportunity to extend their lead at the top to 11 points when they take on Sligo Rovers on Saturday.
