New role for former Athlone Town women's captain
Former Athlone Town women's senior team captain Laurie Ryan has been appointed manager of Treaty United ahead of the 2026 League of Ireland Women's Premier Division season.
Ryan joined Athlone in 2021 and played a pivotal as captain when the club made history by winning the FAI Cup in 2023 and the Premier Division title in 2024.
A native of Clare, Ryan has also starred for her native county on the GAA fields.
Alongside her playing achievements Ryan is a lecturer in the Department of Sport and Health at TUS Midlands.
Speaking to the Treaty United website upon her appointment Ryan said she was delighted to have the opportunity to manage at the top level of women's football in the country.
"I'm looking forward to getting started and having the chance to work with a group of really talented players," Ryan said.
Treaty United CEO Ciara McCormack, who has strong links to Athlone, said that Ryan's leadership and professionalism were traits which were valued at the club.
"Her track record as a captain, coach and educator makes her an ideal fit to guide our women's programme into an exciting new chapter," the CEO said.
Treaty United senior women will complete their league season when they play Waterford in the RSC on Saturday.
