Man in his 80s seriously injured in Ballymahon collision

Gardai have appealed for witnesses to a road traffic collision in which a pedestrian, a man in his 80s, was seriously injured in Ballymahon this evening (Monday).

A statement from the Garda press office said the collision between a vehicle and the pedestrian happened on Main Street in the town at approximately 5.15pm.

The man in his 80s was brought to Tullamore hospital for injuries "believed to be serious".

The Garda statement said the car involved in the incident was driven by a male in his late teens, and that the driver was uninjured.

"The road is currently closed and local diversions are in place," said the Garda press office this evening. "Garda forensic collision investigators will conduct a technical examination of the scene on Tuesday morning, February 3."

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them.

Any road users or pedestrians who may have camera footage (including dash-cam footage) and were in the area between 5pm and 5.30pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
