Local cricket club's season recognised at annual Leinster awards
Athlone Cricket Club was among the clubs honoured at the recent annual Cricket Leinster Awards & Gala Dinner at the Round Room in the Mansion House, Dublin.
After a successful season for the club's two senior teams, the second team received their trophy and winners' medals having won the Cricket Leinster League Division 14 title.
Under the leadership of captain Nishanth Ramdass, Athlone Team 2 displayed consistency, resilience, and flair throughout the campaign, losing just once out of 14 matches played.
Captain Ramdass praised his squad for their unity and fighting spirit, highlighting the balance between experience and fresh talent that carried the team to the top.
“Every player stepped up when it mattered, and this title is a reflection of our hard work and passion for the game,” he said.
Athlone Cricket Club's first team (Team 1) also had a great season and secured promotion to Division 6, which will be the club's highest level to compete at since its formation in 1974.
Over 390 people from 32 clubs, including many from the Athlone club, attended the Cricket Leinster awards night as Meena Baskarasubramanian and Brian Kell handed out 56 trophies, awards and cups.
Athlone Cricket Club currently fields three adult teams, as well as having a social team, and they are currently open to welcoming new players into the club. Interested parties can contact the club through their various social media platforms. The club, whose home ground is at Doon, Co.
