South Roscommon company is recipient of Outstanding Contribution to Local Business award

With an employee base of 23 at their plant in Brideswell, Waldron Meats were revealed as the Outstanding Contribution to Local Business award winners at the recent Local Enterprise Awards.

Waldron Meats have been in business for 35 years and are one of the county’s most recognised brand names with a stellar reputation in the food production sector. The company sell their product to over two hundred outlets, across all of the county’s main retail multiples.

Representing the company at the awards ceremony, which took place in the Hodson Bay Hotel, Athlone were the company’s Business Development Manager Amy Waldron, accompanied by her brother-in-law, Commercial Manager Cathal Waldron.

The company have a growing Irish and UK market, supplying products such as bacon, sausages and black and white puddings, not only to the retail sector, but to hospitals and large-scale catering outlets.

“We’re delighted to receive this award and we’re really grateful to LEO for the support that we receive. We initially received an exporting grant which allowed us to develop a good relationship with our suppliers which we continue to enjoy.

“We have also received considerable support and knowledge from LEO about sustainability which is a key part of what we now do as a company. We’ve also received other support such as Social Media marketing.

“We’re determined to continue to grow our brand which will result in better recognition for the company. We have a regular presence at Bloom every June and recently received a gold medal at the Blas na hÉireann, National Food Awards in Dingle.

“We’ve also being recognised at the Taste of Ireland awards and currently in receipt of gold membership as part of the ‘Origin Green’ initiative. Despite having a supplier issue in the UK through customs challenges, we have overcome that and our business model is good – and busy” says Amy.

Tully Forge, Ballaghaderreen, were the overall winners of this year’s County Enterprise Awards, whilst the Ambition and Growth award went to Monksland based Dunbar Pharma, the Sustainability Award went to Roscommon Town based enterprise The Upholstery Company, whilst the Social Enterprise category award winners were Triest Press
