Eamonn Holmes says he will do his best to get well soon after stroke

GB News presenter Eamonn Holmes has said he will do his best to “get well soon” after suffering a stroke.
The 66-year-old Northern Irish star was taken to hospital following the incident, with GB News saying he is “responding well to treatment” in a statement issued last week.
Posting a picture of his granddaughters on Instagram, one of which was holding up a misspelt “get well soon” sign, Holmes said: “As my beautiful Granddaughters put it so well – I will do my best to get well soom (the spelling error his granddaughter had made).
“Thank you for all of your many, many good wishes, they give me strength.”
Holmes co-presents GB News Breakfast from Monday to Wednesday with Ellie Costello, with presenter Alex Armstrong standing in for him on the show while he recovers.
GB News’ statement read: “Eamonn has asked for privacy as he focuses on getting better.
“His colleagues and everyone at GB News wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming him back to the people’s channel when he is ready to return.”
Wishing him well, his temporary replacement Armstrong added: “Thinking of you Eamonn Holmes. Such a shock to all of us. You’re sorely missed. Get better soon.”
GB News sports presenter Paul Coyte, who is also a close friend of Holmes, also wished him a “speedy recovery”, while fellow presenter Stephen Dixon, who also worked with Holmes during his time with Sky News wished him “a swift return to good health”.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Holmes’ son Declan said: “I just wanted to share a quick message to say we hugely appreciate all the messages, it means a lot to us as a family. What happened came as a real shock, but dad is doing okay given the circumstances and we’re taking it one step at a time.
“For now, we’re focused on him and keeping things steady around him. We’d really value a bit of privacy as we navigate it, and what lies ahead, but thank you again for the support as it means so much to dad and the rest of the family.”
Holmes first rose to public attention as a presenter on ITV’s GMTV from 1993 to 2005, before moving on to Sky News’s Sunrise from 2005 to 2016, from 2006 to 2021 he co-presented ITV’s This Morning with his then-wife Ruth Langsford.
He joined GB News in 2022, and was made an Officer Of The Order Of The British Empire (OBE) for services to broadcasting in the 2018 New Year Honours.
