Almost 10,000 patients on waiting lists in local hospitals in March

Almost 10,000 patients were on waiting lists in local hospitals in the month of March, according to figures recently released by the National Treatment Purchase Fund.

Figures released by NTPF show that a total of 9,958 patients are on waiting lists locally.

This consists 5,781 patients awaiting appointments in Roscommon University Hospital, including 4961 outpatients, and 820 inpatients.

Meanwhile in Portiuncula University Hopsital in Ballinasloe, a total of 4,177 patients are awaiting appointments, including 3,657 outpatients, and 520 inpatients.

It is noted that the outpatient list includes patients with a scheduled appointment date for their consultation, and those awaiting an appointment date.

Tullamore has reported one of the highest waiting lists in the Midlands, with a total of 22,276 patients on waiting lists in the month of March.

This consisted 2,813 out patients, including 2,577 adults and 236 children, as well as 19,463 outpatients, including 18,236 adults and 1,227 children.

Elsewhere in the Midlands region, Midlands Regional Hospital, Mullingar reported a total of 10, 649 patients on waiting lists, consisting 493 inpatient, and 10,156 outpatient. Midlands Regional Hospital, Portlaoise reported 6,783 patients in waiting lists, consisting 325 inpatient, and 6,458 outpatient.
