Three Westmeath players named on GAA.ie 'Team of the Week'
Three Westmeath senior footballers have been named on the GAA.ie 'Team of the Week' in recognition of their contributions to the county's memorable win over Meath in the Leinster SFC quarter-final on Sunday.
In what was an impressive team performance by the Lake County, full back Charlie Drumm, wing back Matthew Whittaker and full forward Luke Loughlin (who has also been nominated for the 'Player of the Week' accolade), were singled out for inclusion as a result of their respective impact on the game's proceedings.
Drumm put in a strong performance in his customary full back berth, while Whittaker and Loughlin made scoring contributions to the team's win.
Whittaker scored Westmeath's first goal of the contest and set the tone for what was to come, while Loughlin clipped over six points prior to his substitution on 51 minutes.
Loughlin has been nominated for the GAA.ie 'Player of the Week' award alongside Dublin's Paddy Small and Monaghan player Dessie Ward.
GAA.ie described Loughlin's performance for Mark McHugh's 'improving team' as 'typically stylish'.
