Westmeath and Roscommon to learn All-Ireland first round opponents today

Westmeath and Roscommon are both in the draw for the All-Ireland SFC First Round later today.

Roscommon as a Division One team were guaranteed entry to the All-Ireland Championship while Westmeath's dramatic victory over Kildare yesterday ensured their place in a Leinster final, and a berth in the Sam Maguire.

The draw for Round 1 will be broadcast live as part of The View on GAA+, beginning at 1pm.

Viewers can watch the draw live and free on the GAA+ YouTube channel, as well as across the GAA’s official social media platforms (https://www.youtube.com/@gaaplusofficial1)

The round robin format of recent senior football championships has been replaced this season, with teams guaranteed instead at least two games in the All-Ireland Championships.

Westmeath and Roscommon are both in Bowl 1, ensuring they have home advantage in the first round.

The teams in Bowl 2 are: Donegal, Mayo, Meath, Louth, Derry, Tyrone, Cavan, Kildare.

Along with Westmeath and Roscommon in Bowl 1 are Galway, Dublin, Cork, Kerry, Armagh, Monaghan

The 16 teams in the draw will be paired in eight ties, with the eight winners advancing to Round 2A, where the winners of the subsequent four games will qualify for the All-Ireland quarter finals.

The eight losers of Round 1 will play in Round 2B.

The four losers of the Round 2B games will be out of the championships.

The four winners of those subsequent Round 2B games will move on to Round 3 where they will play the four losers from Round 2A.

The four Round 3 winners will then qualify for the quarter finals where the four original Round 2A winners will await.

Roscommon will play their Round 1 game on the weekend of May 23/24, while Westmeath will play on May 30/31
