An Athlone native is one of 19 students who has been chosen as a recipient of the UCD President's Award.

Ryan Rafferty received the accolade which recognises students who go above and beyond normal expectations, particularly those who provide leadership, commitment and energy during their time studying in UCD.

The former Athlone Community College student graduated from his Actuarial and Financial Studies with a first class honours degree in 2025.

Ryan is the son of Lorraine and Anthony Rafferty from Sarsfield Square.

In her citation, President of UCD, Professor Orla Feely said Ryan "achieved academic distinction while contributing to the Actuarial and Financial Society during his studies. His continued engagement as an alumnus reflects sustained commitment to his discipline."
