Broken-down car leads to disruption on M6 between Athlone and Ballinasloe

Gardai said a broken-down car on the M6 was the cause of traffic disruption on its eastbound section between Ballinasloe and Athlone this evening (Wednesday).

Traffic heading east towards Athlone was being diverted away from the motorway by officers at Ballinasloe this afternoon and early evening.

According to a Garda spokesperson the cause was a report of a broken-down car "on the M6 Eastbound at Junction 14, Ballinasloe".

The spokesperson added that no injuries were reported, but that motorists were being asked to avoid the eastbound stretch of the motorway between Ballinasloe and Monksland.

"Road users are asked to avoid the M6 eastbound between Junction 13 and Junction 14 while motorway maintenance clear the road.

"Gardaí are at the scene for traffic management," the Garda spokesperson added at 5pm this evening.
