Local girl raises over €1,000 by donating her hair

A seven-year-old pupil of St Brigid's Primary School in Moate recently raised more than €1,000 for the Laura Lynn Hospice Foundation by taking part in the 'Locks of Love for Lauralynn' hair donation fundraiser.

Edith Forde cut 12 inches off her hair which will now be donated to the Little Princess Trust, a charity that provides free real hair wigs to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or other conditions.

She was following in the footsteps of her big sister, Tess, who has also raised money for the same cause and donated her hair twice before.

Between them, the sisters have now raised a hugely impressive sum of more than €3,000.

Edith is a member of Moate Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, Moate Ladies Football Club and Dancezone Stage School.

She is known for her kindness and great character, so it's no surprise that she would do such a generous deed for others.

The Laura Lynn Hospice Foundation provides a hospice for children with life-limiting conditions, as well as residential care for children and young adults with disabilities.
