Many areas of Athlone to experience water supply disruption on Tuesday
Uisce Éireann has given notice of a planned interruption to water supplies for residents and businesses across much of Athlone this coming Tuesday (May 19).
The supply disruption is expected as a result to work to upgrade the trunk water main that connects Athlone Town Water Treatment Plant to the Annagh Reservoir.
"To facilitate connections works of the new mains there will be a planned interruption to supply which may impact customers in Athlone and the surrounding areas next week," stated Uisce Éireann
"Customers in Montree, the Ballymahon Road, Priory Park, The Marina Village, Ashdale, Tormey Villas, Esker Park, Abbey Road Cottages, Old Coosan Road, Coosan Road, Woodland Grove, Assumption Road, Ardilaun, Coosan Point Road, Arcadia Court, Highfield Court, Arcadia Crescent, Beech Walk West, Slli An Aifrinn, Old Ballymahon Road, Beech Park, Beechville, Auburn Villas, Auburn Terrace, Beech Park West, Ardnaree, Montree, Marina View, and surrounding areas, may experience a disruption to their supply from 11am to 2pm on Tuesday, May 19."
It added that the "essential work" currently being carried out would "provide a safer and more reliable water supply" for homes and businesses in Athlone.
Uisce Éireann’s Michael McManus said, "We understand the inconvenience caused by an interruption to supply. Every effort will be made to limit the impact of these essential works, and we would like to thank the community in advance for their patience and co-operation.
"Following the completion of the works, it can take two to three hours for normal water supply to return to customers as water refills the network, particularly for those properties on higher ground or at the end of the network."
