Local events for Cruinniú an nÓg this June

A series for local events will take place for Cruinniú an nÓg this June.

Cruinniú na nÓg is a flagship initiative of the Creative Ireland Programme’s Creative Youth Plan to enable the creative potential of children and young people.

This year's events will take place on Saturday, June 6.

Nature & Light: Cyanotype Printmaking for Kids will take place in Aidan Heavey Library from 10.30am to 1pm.

The hands-on, child-centered creative workshop introducing young people to cyanotype printmaking, an early photographic process that uses UV light to create vivid blue images.

The project encourages curiosity, experimentation, and confidence in making, while connecting children with nature and the science of light.

Session one for ages 7 to 10 will take place from 10.30am to 11.30am. It will feature a gentle, playful introduction to cyanotype, focusing on exploration, discovery, and simple composition.

Session two for ages 11 to 14 will take place from 12 noon to 13pm, and will involve a more detailed, design-focused session allowing older participants to experiment with layout, layering, and creative decision-making.

Moate Library will host Unicorns and Dinosaurs with Claire Guinan on from 10am to 12 noon.

The little artists will design and make your own unicorn or dinosaur 3D figure. Each child will colour and cut out templates to make up their creations which they will bring home.

Session one for ages 3 to 4 will take place from 10am to 10.50am. Session two for ages 4 to 8 will take place from 11am to 12 noon.
