Athlone-based trio selected for Kennedy Cup tournament

Three soccer players from the Athlone area have been selected to represent the Midlands Schoolboy League at this summer's prestigious Kennedy Cup tournament in Limerick.

St Joseph's duo Liam Browne and Jack Kelly are joined by St Francis goalkeeper Tadhg Kilkenny in the squad for the tournament, which has long been recognised as one of the highlights of the juvenile soccer season in Ireland. This year's competition will be staged between June 8 and June 12.

Eleven players from Offaly has been selected. Other areas with representation include Mountmellick United and Portlaoise.

In congratulating the 20 players selected from across the midlands, the Midlands Schoolboy League said that everyone chosen has shown "tremendous commitment, ability, attitude and hard work" to earn places in the squad.
