Glasson man Pat Keegan celebrates his 100th birthday
Glasson man Pat Keegan recently celebrated his landmark 100th birthday in the company of his extended family at Heartlands Care Centre, Athlone.
Born on May 6, 1926, to parents Patrick and Mary, Pat had three sisters, Ellen, Mary and Nancy, all of whom are now deceased.
He worked for some time at Bord na Mona, Lanesborough, drawing turf to Mullingar General Hospital to fuel the furnaces of the hospital.
Pat progressed to working on the buildings before starting to work on the family farm.
He married local woman Nancy McCann, from Killeenmore, in 1955 and they had eight children, who all contributed on the family farm. Pat has always maintained a great love of farming and country life.
His beloved wife Nancy passed away in 2012 and two of his daughters, Ann (1985) and Helen (2022) have also passed away. Pat thoroughly enjoyed the occasion of his 100th birthday with family and friends.
Pat received a letter of congratulations from President Connolly on his birthday and was awarded the 'Centenarian Bounty', a gift from the State of €2,540 which is paid to Irish residents who reach their 100th birthday.
