Comhaltas stalwart Tom Shine honoured by Gaeltacht Átha Luain
Gaeltacht Átha Luain held a very successful céilí workshop in the Garrycastle GAA clubhouse on Thursday evening last (May 21).
More than 25 people attended the céilí, which was held in conjunction with the GAA club.
There was a great turnout of people of all generations, from young to old, as they were put through their paces by Athlone céilí legend Tom Shine.
At the much-needed tea and water break, after a solid hour and a half of dancing, the committee of Gaeltacht Átha Luain were delighted to present Tom Shine, who recently celebrated his 80th birthday, with a small token of appreciation for all his work for Gaeltacht Átha Luain and indeed the wider Irish cultural community over the years.
Tom, who is a stalwart of Comhaltas in Athlone, has been enjoying céilí and set dancing for more than 60 years, with no sign of slowing down.
The chairperson of Gaeltacht Átha Luain, Mickey Moran, said: "We are blessed in Athlone to have people like Tom so willing to give their time to help keep our native culture and traditions alive. We are already looking forward to the next one."
Details of upcoming Gaeltacht Átha Luain events will be shared on the Athlone Pop-Up Gaeltacht social media accounts.
