CCFL reaches an end as Willow Park take the Senior Division title

Most of the divisions in the Combined Counties Football League concluded last weekend with a potentially dramatic final day of the Senior Division never really providing the tension one might have expected.

Instead, a Ryan Gaffey double and another from experienced stalwart Mark Nicholson provided league leaders Willow Park with the three points needed to secure the title when they travelled to Mountmellick Utd.

Second-placed St Peter's were hoping their Athlone rivals might slip-up at Conor Davis Park and in fairness to the McCarthy Park outfit, they did all they could on the day by beating Clonaslee Utd, 6-2. However, Willow ended up winning the title by two points.

In Division 1, Killavilla Utd had the titled secured some time ago and finished the campaign 12 points ahead of second-placed Ballymahon. Melville Utd are the highest placed local team in Division 2 with a couple of games to go but promotion is unfortunately impossible at this point. Monksland Utd's second team are just behind them in fifth place while Moate Celtic and St Peter's 'B' team finished in the lower half of the table.

Stradbally Town took the honours in Division 3 with Killeigh also promoted while Division 4A was won by Gracefield Athletic and Division 4B by Temple Villa 'B'. There was also strong showings by Bealnamulla women's team, who won the Premier Division ahead of second-placed Ballymahon. Temple Villa's under-18 also deserved an honourable mention, finishing as runners-up in the U-18 Women's Premier Division.
