Athlone's Coláiste Chiaráin holds end-of-year student awards
Coláiste Chiaráin secondary school in Athlone has extended its congratulations to all students who received end-of-year awards this month.
Junior and senior students were recognised for their academic excellence, school spirit, sporting success, and extra-curricular achievements throughout the year.
In 1st Year, from class Ash, Eleanor Neary received the 'Class Student of the Year' award and Ciara Woods received a 'Spirit of the School' award.
From Beech, Sanmayi Desaraju received 'Class Student of the Year' and Roan Mannion received a 'Spirit of the School' award. From class Elm, Lia Roman received 'Class Student of the Year' and Gary Naughton received 'Spirit of the School'.
From class Maple, Elizabeth Richards received 'Class Student of the Year' and Lucy Collins received 'Spirit of the School'. From class Oak, Amelia Kelly received 'Class Student of the Year' and Aine Hanley received 'Spirit of the School'. From class Sycamore, Erin Matilda Dillon received 'Class Student of the Year' and Shane Lennon received 'Spirit of the School'. In 5th Year, the 'Academic Award' recipients were Bailey Pierce (5A), Emma Fogarty (5B), Amelia Kobzda (5C), Brodi Joseph Gavin (5D), Aristide Claude Illya Selve (5E), and Horatiu Dan Uram (5F). 'Spirit of the School' awards went to Emilia Barczuk (5A), Rebecca Costello (5B), Jack Kelly (5C), Mark Bradley (5D), Jayden Cooper (5E), and Tom Colleran (5F). Enda Browne received the 5th Year 'Sports Star of the Year' award, Laura Glennon received the 5th Year 'Sports Star of the Year' award for girls, Mariia Zhuk received the 'Clubs and Societies' award, and Alba Visconti Martinez received the 5th Year 'International Student of the Year' award.
For LCA 1, Aidan Galvin received the 'Overall Student of the Year' 2025–2026 award and Siobhan Ní Chluaid received the 'Spirit of the School' award.
For LCA 2, Jack Prendergast received the 'Overall Student of the Year' 2025–2026 award and Jay Moloney received the 'Spirit of the School' award.
Connacht Champions
The U15 boys soccer team were crowned Connacht Champions after a dramatic victory over Merlin College in the Colleges Shield A Final last Tuesday.
A high-quality game of football was played by both sides, with Merlin College starting the stronger and taking a 1–0 lead before half-time. CCA’s back four were outstanding throughout, while goalkeeper Niall McGinley produced an exceptional display between the posts with a series of important saves and commanding performances under the high ball.
CCA responded immediately in the second half when Eoin Butler finished superbly after a long delivery from Eli. The sides could not be separated after normal time or extra time, with the game finishing 1–1 and heading to penalties.
Cian McGoldrick, John O’Brien, and Eoin Butler all converted from the spot before captain Cian McGoldrick scored the decisive penalty to secure a 4–2 shootout victory and the Connacht title.
Player of the Match was awarded to Niall McGinley following a unanimous decision in the dressing room, recognising his calmness, reflex saves, and assured performance throughout the final.
A fantastic achievement and a brilliant way to finish the season for the squad and coaching team.
