Some 600 Athlone premises to face water outages this Wednesday

Uisce Éireann has said works being undertaken in Athlone tomorrow (Wednesday) are expected to cause daytime water supply disruption to around 600 homes and businesses.

The expected outages are arising from work being carried out to "upgrade a trunk water main" that connects Athlone's water treatment plant to the Annagh reservoir.

"This essential work will provide a safer and more reliable water supply for homes and businesses in Athlone," stated Uisce Éireann.

"To facilitate connection works of the new mains there will be a planned interruption to supply which may impact customers in Athlone and the surrounding areas tomorrow."

It said water supply disruption was expected to occur between 11am and 2pm tomorrow in the following areas: Priory Park, The Marina Village, Ashdale, Tormey Villas, Esker Park, Abbey Road Cottages, Old Coosan Road, Coosan Road, Woodland Grove, Assumption Road, Ardilaun, Coosan Point Road, Arcadia Court, Highfield Court, Arcadia Crescent, Beech Walk West, Slli An Aifrinn, Old Ballymahon Road, Ballymahon Road, Beech Park, Beechfield, Auburn Villas, Auburn Terrace, Beech Park West, Ardnaree, Montree, Marina View and surrounding areas.

Uisce Éireann's Michael Mc Manus said, "We understand the inconvenience caused by an interruption to supply.

"Every effort will be made to limit the impact of these essential works, and we would like to thank the community in advance for their patience and co-operation.

"Following the completion of the works, it can take two to three hours for normal water supply to return to customers as water refills the network, particularly for those properties on higher ground or at the end of the network."
