Tubberclair parish priest to retire after 33 years

It was announced at the weekend that Fr Seamus Mulvany is to retire after serving as the parish priest in Tubberclair for the last 33 years.

The news of the long-serving cleric's retirement was revealed to parishioners at Mass on Sunday.

A special Mass and community gathering to celebrate his years of service in South Westmeath is being planned for Sunday, June 28.

Fr Mulvany's retirement comes after a remarkable 61 years in the priesthood. A native of Wilkinstown in Meath, he was educated in St Finian's College, Mullingar, and in Maynooth prior to his ordination in 1965.

In the 1960s he had spells based in Tullamore and with the Irish Chaplaincy in London.

In 1969, he returned to the Meath diocese, where he served in the parishes of Beauparc, Kentstown and Ashbourne, before being appointed parish priest in Tubberclair in 1993.

While the list of upcoming Diocesan appointments for the Diocese of Meath has not yet been published, it's believed that Fr Mulvany will be succeeded in Tubberclair by Fr Barry Condron, who is currently the parish priest in Tyrrellspass.
