Westmeath championship journey to continue in Galway
Westmeath will travel to Pearse Stadium Salthill to play Galway in Round 2A of the All-Ireland series following the senior football championship draw this morning.
The draw, which was broadcast live on RTÉ Radio One from the Hodson Bay Hotel, saw Roscommon handed an away fixture against Monaghan, with both games due to take place over the weekend of June 13/14.
Westmeath will face Galway for the the third time in four championship seasons, following round robin outings in 2023 and 2024.
On both occasions the Tribesmen overcame The Lake County challenge in TEG Cusack Park Mullingar.
Westmeath can reflect favourably on the county's previous visit to Salthill for senior football championship action in 2006 when a Gary Dolan goal saw the county advance to the All-Ireland quarter-final for the third time in six seasons.
Mark McHugh's charges will be hoping to repeat this feat in Salthill and in the process claim Westmeath's sixth consecutive senior football championship victory of this year's campaign.
There is the safety net of a Round 3 fixture should Westmeath lose in Salthill and a second opportunity to reach the last eight of this year's All-Ireland senior football championship.
Should this be the case, Westmeath will play one of the four winning teams from Round 2B.
Meanwhile, Roscommon will travel to Clones for their Round 2B contest knowing a loss will end their championship season.
The counties met in an Allianz National Football League Division 1 encounter in February when Roscommon won on that occasion by six points.
Prior to that, Monaghan got the better of Roscommon in the 2025 Allianz National Football League Division 2 final by a ten point winning margin.
The dates and times for all Round 2A and Round 2B fixtures are expected to be confirmed by the CCCC to confirm fixture details shortly.
