More than 80 people lose jobs at Athlone firm

Some 86 people are believed to have been made redundant at an Athlone-based firm last week.

Last October, Circana, located at the IDA Business & Technology Park, in Garrycastle, Athlone, informed staff of a proposal for 86 redundancies.

The redundancies were due to come into effect at the end of June.

The Westmeath Independent has learned the proposed job lossses have now come into effect and some 86 staff were formally made redundant on Tuesday of last week, June 30.

It’s understood the roles are being moved to other locations worldwide, including India, Greece, South Africa and Colombia.

Circana is a leading advisor on the complexity of consumer behaviour, and uses technology, AI, and data to help clients optimise their businesses.

A merger of the NPD Group and IRI, two market information companies, in 2022, resulted in the creation of the Circana company and brand name. The NPD Group had been in existence in Athlone since 2010.

In October, a spokesperson for Circana said the company was unable to comment at this time.

The company did not respond to a further request for comment last week.
