Westmeath's Ashley Ruane and Roscommon's Laura Mannion in action when the sides met in the National Football League last year.

Westmeath and Roscommon name teams for All-Ireland semi-final

Roscommon and Westmeath have named their teams for this Sunday's TG4 LGFA All-Ireland Intermediate Championship semi-final at Kingspan Breffni Park (4pm).

The Westmeath team shows two changes from the side which overcame Wexford in the quarter-final, with Pip Ruane (Loughnavalley) and Aoife Keegan (St Joseph's) coming in instead of Ashley Ruane and Caoimhe Kilmurray.

Vicky Carr of St Loman's has been named at midfield despite being forced off with an injury very early in the Wexford game. Interestingly, Vicky's father Tom Carr is a former manager of the Roscommon men's team.

In a team captained by Fiona Coyle - see here for separate interview piece - the Westmeath team contains two Goldsmiths players, Sarah Murphy (the Kerry native has transferred to the club from Moate) and Rebecca Higgins, while Athlone's Aoife Temple continues as goalkeeper.

There is one change to the Roscommon team with St Brigid's star Kate Nolan drafted into the starting XV - see here for article featuring an interview with Kate.

Nolan is joined in the Roscommon team by Brigid's clubmates Aine McGrath and Abby Curran (daughter of flamboyant former Roscommon goalkeeper Shane Curran), while Clann na nGael is represented by Róise Lennon and Caoimhe Lennon (scorer of two goals in the quarter-final win over Leitrim).

Sunday's eagerly awaited game is a clash of two former winners of the competition with a coveted place in the final at stake. Roscommon were winners in 2005, while Westmeath claimed the silverware in 2021 and 2011.

Westmeath were semi-finalists last year, losing out narrowly to eventual winners Tyrone after extra-time in what was a thrilling contest played in Carrick-on-Shannon.

Their championship form to date in 2026 has been impressive as they repeated their Leinster intermediate final victory over Wexford when the same two sides met in the All-Ireland quarter-finals.

For their part, Roscommon also claimed victory in a provincial final repeat at the quarter-final stage, as they impressively overturned their heavy loss to Leitrim in this year’s Connacht decider.

Sunday's match between the two neighbouring counties from either side of the Shannon will be shown on TG4's YouTube channel.
