Tributes paid to former Tubber and Rosemount parish priest

The communities of Tubber and Rosemount are in mourning following the death of Fr Tony Gavin, who served the parish from 2008 until 2020.

Ordained into the priesthood in 2002, Fr Gavin was appointed curate to the Tubber and Rosemount parish from 2008 to 2011.

He then served the role of parish administrator from 2008 to 2011 before being appointed parish priest of Tubber and Rosemount for a six year period, from 2014 to 2020.

Numerous tributes have been paid on rip.ie to the late priest by many of his former congregation.

Such tributes described Fr Gavin as a "kind, caring and lovely priest" who showed "great kindness, compassion and support" in his role as a "true servant" of the Catholic faith.

The staff and board of management of Tubber National School said Fr Gavin was a "gentleman who was dearly loved by all in Tubber NS".

"We appreciate all he did for our school community. May he rest in eternal peace".

The board of Management, staff and pupils of Rosemount National School also recalled Fr Gavin with affection.

"We are so saddened to hear of the passing of Fr. Tony. He was a supportive and gentle man who always had a kind word for pupils and staff alike. May his gentle soul rest in peace".

St Vincent de Paul in Moate described Fr Gavin as a "great Spiritual Director to us and was always a gentleman".

Funeral Mass for Fr Gavin took place this afternoon (Monday), followed by burial in Glasnevin Cemetery.
