Over €2m owed in derelict sites levy in Westmeath
Uncollected derelict site levies in Westmeath amounted to a whopping €2.345m at the end of 2025, it has emerged.
The figures were released to Cllr Liam McDaniel at the July meeting of the Athlone/Moate Municipal District.
It was reported recently that uncollected levies nationwide totalled €32m at end of 2025, meaning that Westmeath accounted for over 7% of the national figure.
Westmeath was among 11 counties not to collect any derelict site levies in 2024.
The existing Derelict Sites Levy, which amounts to 7% of the market valuation of relevant sites, is soon to be replaced by a new Derelict Property Tax to be collected by Revenue.
