Opening of Cliona Hagan's new Athlone gastropub delayed due to family illness

Country music star Cliona Hagan, and her musician husband Simon Sheerin from Tang, have had to delay the opening of their new business venture in Athlone due to family illness.

Mary Mc's, a gastropub based at Church Street (at the former Brazen Monkey premises), was due to open today (Friday).

The pub will be run by Cliona – a Dancing With The Stars finalist – her husband, some of his family members, and local businessman Colin Harris.

Cliona took to social media to share the "very sad news", thanking followers for their understanding.

Church Street's newest addition is said to have plans to become a top location for music.

A native of Ballinderry, Tyrone, Cliona has established herself as one of the country's most popular figures on the country music scene in recent years.

Her husband is also renowned for his musical talents, including his involvement with the renowned Sheerin Family Band.
