'Out of order' signs put up at Athlone town crossing after months-long lights failure

'Out of order' signs have been erected on the traffic lights at the pedestrian crossing across from the Golden Island Shopping Centre in Athlone today (Friday).

It comes after the the lights have been out of operation at the busy town-centre crossing point for up to three months.

One local resident described the lights outage as "very dangerous", adding that "when the sun shines on them, it can look like a light is showing".

Westmeath County Council have been contacted by the Westmeath Independent in relation to a timeline for the return of the lights, however a response has not yet been issued at the time of writing.
