Irish Rail announces late-night train to Athlone after Katie Taylor fight
Locals heading to Croke Park for Katie Taylor's historic bout this Saturday night will be able to get a train back to Athlone afterwards, Irish Rail has announced.
A sold-out crowd of 80,000 will witness what the legendary Bray boxer has said will be her final fight, against unbeaten French boxer Flora Pili.
Afterwards, Irish Rail will be running a train from Dublin Heuston to Athenry, serving Portarlington, Tullamore, Athlone, Ballinasloe and Athenry. This service will leave Dublin at 00:30 hours, and is due to arrive in Athlone at 01:48.
Irish Rail said the service is likely to sell out, and early booking at irishrail.ie is advised (when booking online, input September 6 into the journey planner as the train is leaving after midnight).
For those not attending the fight, it will be shown live on RTÉ Two, with coverage starting from 8pm.
