Glasson hotel announces reopening date after closure due to illness outbreak

The Glasson Lakehouse hotel, which has been closed for the last fortnight due to an illness outbreak, has announced it will reopen this week.

A spokesperson for the hotel told the Westmeath Independent that it will be reopening this Thursday (September 10).

The lakefront hotel and adjoining Glasson Golf Club both officially closed two weeks ago, on Wednesday, August 26, due to an illness outbreak affecting staff and guests.

"It is with regret that we have decided to temporarily close our premises as a precautionary measure following an outbreak of Norovirus," the hotel said when it first announced the closure.

A number of weddings which had been scheduled to take place at the Glasson Lakehouse in the last fortnight could not go ahead there, with alternative venues sought for them at short notice.

The hotel's closure was voluntary, but its spokesperson previously said it has been in regular communication with the HSE officials around ensuring a safe reopening.

A spokesperson for the HSE told the Westmeath Independent it "issued clear advice to the management team of the premises regarding the risk assessment and actions required before reopening".

The HSE spokesperson added: "The decision on when the premises is appropriate and safe to reopen rests with the hotel management, following completion of its risk assessment and any necessary actions arising from that assessment."
