Athlone Photography Club to host free members' course this weekend
Athlone Photography Club is celebrating the successful launch of its 2026/27 season, held on Wednesday last at Abbey Road Artists Studios in Athlone.
The evening brought together new and returning members to share plans for the year ahead and mark the beginning of another season of photography.
The launch reflected the club’s aim of providing a friendly and welcoming learning environment for photographers of all abilities. Through meetings, talks, workshops, outings, competitions and exhibitions, the club encourages the study, practice and appreciation of photography.
Liam Kidney, Chairperson of Athlone Photography Club, said: “It was fantastic to see such a great mix of new and returning members at our launch night. Athlone Photography Club welcomes photographers of every ability, from people picking up a camera for the first time to experienced photographers who want to continue learning and sharing their knowledge.
“We have an exciting programme planned for the year ahead, and we would love to see even more people get involved.”Plans for the new season include photography events and talks led by club members and guest speakers; field trips, outings and community activities and the continuation of the People of Athlone portrait project and exhibition.
Athlone Photography Club will hold an introductory photography course on Saturday, September 12 at 9.45am at the Athlone Sub Aqua Club premises. The course is exclusively for Athlone Photography Club members and is included with membership at no additional cost.
Designed for beginners and members wishing to refresh their skills, the course will cover camera settings, composition and techniques for photographing people and places. Participants will also receive practical guidance on landscapes, natural portraits and making effective use of light.No previous experience is required. Members simply need to bring their camera.
