Caulry to face Moate as Westmeath LGFA finals loom

There is a huge weekend in prospect for Westmeath LGFA with four adult county finals taking place, and the local derby intermediate decider between Moate and Caulry will attract plenty of interest in the south of the county.

Caulry and Moate will meet in TEG Cusack Park at 2pm tomorrow (Saturday), and this will be followed by the senior final between defending champions Milltown and St Loman's (4pm).

For the Mount Temple/Baylin side, it's a first ever appearance in an intermediate county final. On the other hand, Moate have been here before, winning the county title in 2018.

Both teams earned their places with hard fought semi-final wins. Caulry held off a late Loughnavalley comeback to win by 3-8 to 2-9. Moate trailed Milltownpass at half-time but produced a powerful second half to win 3-10 to 2-6.

Emily Craven, Annemarie Moran and Chloe Moran scored the Moate goals in their semi-final, while Therese Geoghegan chipped in with four points. Moate also had to overcome the setback of having a player sin-binned towards the end of the first half.

In Caulry's win over Loughnavalley, Megan Clinton, Leah Quigley and Kate Stuart Trainor scored 1-1 apiece, while the Gaynor sisters (Áine and Aishling) also played prominent roles.

Moate got the better of Caulry when the sides met in the opening round of this year’s championship, 1-15 to 2-7. Now the ladies in red have the chance to turn that result around on the biggest day of their season, but Moate will also be determined to bring the intermediate crown back to the club.

The Moate and Caulry players will be very familiar with each other, with several of them either past or current students of Moate Community School.

Meanwhile, Milltown and St Loman’s are preparing to meet in the senior county final for the third year in a row.

St Loman’s took the title in 2024 but Milltown responded in 2025, winning a tight final by 1-11 to 1-9. Now Milltown have the chance to retain the crown and the Mullingar outfit have the opportunity to reclaim it as another chapter between them awaits.

When the sides met in the group stages of this year’s championship, St Loman’s won by 5-13 to 3-6. Milltown held off The Downs 3-4 to 2-4 in a closely contested semi-final, with St Loman’s defeating last year's intermediate champions Goldsmiths by 0-15 to 0-9.

Both the intermediate and senior finals will be streamed on Iarmhí TV.
