Athlone to host Darkness Into Light event this Saturday

Athlone Town Stadium is the starting point for the 2025 Darkness Into Light event which gets underway this Saturday, May 10, at 4.15am.

The Athlone Darkness Into Light Committee is delighted to have this major fundraiser for Pieta, the suicide and self-help prevention charity, returning to the town once again. They are urging those who have not yet registered to take part to sign up online at www.darknessintolight.ie

Everyone has their own personal reason for taking part in Darkness Into Light. It could be to remember a loved one, honour a personal journey, show solidarity, or make sure that suicide and self-harm prevention services remain available in Ireland. Every step taken by participants, and every euro raised, will help Pieta to continue offering free, professional support to those at risk of suicide, self-harm, or affected by suicide 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

While Darkness Into Light is predominately a fundraiser, it is also a powerful statement of hope, solidarity, and community support. Athlone is once again proud to be playing its part in this vital fundraising event for Pieta, and the organising committee is inviting everyone to join them this Saturday, May 10, at 4.15am.

In Kilbeggan, the Darkness Into Light event will be hosted by the Kilbeggan Shamrocks GAA Club and starts at St James’s Hall with refreshments being provided afterwards.

The Ballymore Darkness Into Light event begins at the standard time (4.15am) and a gathering is planned for 3.45am on High Street. The route is a 5km loop of the village to the GAA pitch and back to High Street.
