Athlone's newest bar and restaurant on the shores of Lough Ree
Enjoy a fantastic new dining experience with family and friends
It is just over a month since the Lough Ree Inn, Coosan Point, reopened its doors.
Situated with a stunning view over the shores of Lough Ree, the Inn offers an inviting lakeside escape. Since reopening, both locals and tourists have been setting down anchor to enjoy everything it has to offer.
A Taste of the Lake
Athlone’s newest restaurant offers beautiful lakeside dining with hearty Irish flavours and a touch of character.
From freshly landed seafood to flame-grilled steaks, the menu has been carefully designed to satisfy every appetite.
Begin your journey with starters such as the Lough Ree Garlic Buoys, golden crusty baguettes with roasted garlic butter and fresh parsley, or the Sailor’s Seafood Chowder paired with homemade brown bread.
The Captain’s Smoked Salmon Net and First Mate’s Caesar Raft are bursting with flavours, while the Santorini Lifeboat offers a Mediterranean vegetarian option bursting with colour and freshness.
For mains, the menu offers something for everyone. The Catch of the Day changes daily, perhaps a pan-fried salmon served with a colourful mix of roasted vegetables, finished with a drizzle of lemon for a fresh, zesty kick.
Favourites like the Golden Goujon Treasure Chest, crispy chicken goujons with aioli, chilli dip, fries, and salad, or the Admiral’s Fillet and Steer the Sirloin, prime Irish grass-fed steaks flame-grilled to perfection, are always on hand.
The Deckhand’s Steak Ciabatta is a crowd-pleaser that pairs perfectly with a relaxed evening by the lake.
Children are also well catered-for with the Little Sailors’ Menu, which includes mini portions of goujons, sausages with golden fries, and stone-baked pizzas.
A tempting dessert selection, freshly prepared daily, rounds off the voyage with a sweet note.
A wide range of drinks are on offer and the wine menu offers a variety of wines, from a fruity white wine like Pinot Grigio or a spicy olive red wine like Montepulciano, we will always try to cater to your tastebuds.
Finger Food & Casual Dining
If you’re seeking something lighter, the Inn’s finger food selection is the perfect answer.
Options such as pizzas, hot dogs, and golden goujons can be enjoyed in the bar or seating areas, making it ideal for casual dining with friends or family.
A Place for Everyone
Amenities at the Lough Ree Inn ensure there is something for all ages. Children can enjoy the outdoor playground, while adults can relax with a drink overlooking the water. On cooler days, the stove fire provides a cosy retreat, making the bay window seating a favourite spot for watching the lake.
At the right time, you can even pick up duck and swan feed from the shop and take a gentle stroll to the lakeside and feed the wildlife opposite the children’s playground.
Sports fans will appreciate the dedicated seating area, complete with screens for live matches and a pool table for friendly competition. For those seeking relaxation, the mini café serves fresh pastries, sandwiches, and barista coffee, making it the perfect stop after the school run or for a leisurely Sunday morning.
Events and gatherings are also welcome, with space for celebrations, birthdays, and private functions.
The new proprietors, Laura and Gerard Murtagh, are deeply grateful for the support of the local community and look forward to welcoming new and returning guests.
Perfect for family celebrations and private functions.
