Local school celebrates St Ciarán’s Day
Coláiste Chiaráin celebrated St Ciaráns Day on 9th September with the visit of school patron, Bishop Kevin Doran.
We celebrated the commencement of our 1st years in the school during a special liturgy at St Brigid’s Church, Drum. Bishop Kevin welcomed all of the new students to the school community and spent a few moments getting to know some of them.
St Ciarán's brief but impactful life demonstrates how visionary educational leadership can create lasting change. From humble beginnings in County Roscommon to establishing one of Europe's premier centres of learning, his story embodies the potential within Irish education to achieve international excellence while remaining rooted in local values and traditions.
As schools continue to evolve in the 21st century, the example of St Ciarán reminds educators of the enduring importance of combining academic standards with character development, cultural awareness, and service to the broader community.
His feast day each September provides an annual opportunity for reflection on these fundamental educational principles that remain as relevant today as they were in sixth-century Ireland.
