BoxDrop expands with new Athlone self-storage facility
BoxDrop.ie, Ireland’s most innovative self-storage company, today announced the launch of its newest service: a drive-up self-storage facility in Athlone.
The service complements the company’s popular mobile “storage-to-your-door” solution that has transformed how homeowners and businesses manage space during renovations, moves and seasonal changes.
The new Athlone hub, at the rear of Athlone Furniture World, old Dublin Road, Athlone, provides customers with drive-up access to insulated, secure storage containers, available to book immediately. The facility features 24-hour access, full CCTV monitoring, on-site security, and premium insulated units designed to protect household goods, documents, tools and equipment in all weather conditions.
Founded on the simple idea that storage should come to you, BoxDrop has grown steadily across Leinster thanks to its novel portable container service. Customers renovating their homes, moving, or simply decluttering can have a storage unit delivered directly to their driveway. They pack it in their own time, then Box Drop either leaves it on-site during the project or collects it for safekeeping in their secure yard.
“The response to our mobile service has been incredible,” said Nick Lalor, Co-Founder of Box Drop. “Home renovations in Ireland have surged, and with that comes the need for smarter storage. Customers love that they don’t need to rent vans, make multiple trips, or work to someone else’s timetable. They fill their unit once, and we handle the rest.”
The decision to open the Athlone facility marks Box Drop’s first expansion into conventional drive-in storage, addressing demand from customers in the Midlands who may prefer to bring items to a fixed location and/or where they are limited for space at their own premises.
“Our customers told us they wanted both options — the convenience of ‘storage brought to your door’ and a central facility for quick, flexible drive-up access. Athlone gives them exactly that,” added Lauren McNeill, Head of Sales & Marketing.
What’s New at Box Drop Athlone?
The Athlone site offers drive-up self-storage containers available from January 16, 24/7 customer access, HD CCTV and secure gated entry, fully insulated units designed to protect valuables year-round and a convenient central Midlands location for households and local businesses
With the new Athlone facility, BoxDrop is positioning itself as Ireland’s most flexible storage provider, offering two complementary services:
Mobile Storage – Storage container delivered to your home or business.
Drive-Up Storage - Bring your items to BoxDrop’s secure facility at your convenience, with the first premises launching in Athlone in January 2026.
“Our mission is simple,” added McNeill, “Give people more space, more flexibility and less hassle. Athlone is just the beginning - and we’re excited to continue expanding to meet growing demand across Leinster and beyond through 2026.”
