Public warned about callers posing as Gardai in latest Whatsapp scam

An Garda Síochána have warned of a scam which aims to obtain personal information by means of a WhatsApp call.

"The caller is using An Garda Síochána's crest as their profile photo," a statement on An Garda Síochána's social media read.

The scammers have been asking for details such as bank account information.

"An Garda Síochána Gardaí will never contact you out of the blue over the phone and request your bank account details," the statement furthered.

"If you believe you've engaged with such a scam, contact your local Garda station."
