Athlone Town Women's team pick up 'Team of Year' award

After their best ever season, the Athlone Town Women's team added yet more silverware to their trophy cabinet when they picked up the Women's Team of the Year award at the Her Sport awards ceremony in The Helix in DCU on Friday night last.

The Town were represented at the awards by Hannah Waesch, Maddie Gibson and Natalie McNally.

In a post on their Facebook page, Athlone Town AFC extended "huge congrats" to the Women's Team on what they described as their "amazing season" and added "here's to more in 2026."

The citation for the team at the Her Sport awards stated that they were awarded the Team of the Year accolade after "a historic league-and-cup double that marked one of the most dominant seasons in the SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division."

The citation also said the team were defined by "consistency, belief and decisive performances in the biggest moments" and added that Athlone’s achievements represented "a landmark year for the club and a powerful statement of the league’s growing competitiveness and quality."
